locked out of my trunk
Hello I bought a 1987 camaro rs limited with all the options two weeks ago as a project. To my dismay the guy I bought it from didnt give me the keys to the passenger side or the trunk. But the key does work on the ignition and the driver door, strange. the trunk is electric with the motor and it all works can someone tell me how to open the trunk with out a pry bar
p.s I cant get to the motor the plastic cover is in the way and screwed down in the crevis between the hatch and body
any help will be awsome thanks much
I dont no if it has a hatch release can you tell me where it is

Re: locked out of my trunk
I had a similar problem when I bought my car. I did have the hatch key, but the hatch release wasn't hooked up - not to the key cylinder, or the electric release. Does the car have a hatch release button? If it works, then that's easier than this method.
Luckily, it is possible to pop it from the inside, at least if the hatch release solenoid isn't in the way. Climb into the hatch, and pop off the hatch cargo light - it just pulls out, you might have to pry it a little with a slotted screwdriver. Through the hole, you should hopefully be able to see the latch mechanism. There are 2 ways to release it, the easiest is to put a slotted screwdriver into the "slot", and turn clockwise. Here's what the latch looks like, and how to pop it:

Really? I've never seen a car without a cargo light, I thought all thirdgens got them. It doesn't come on with the dome light, there should be a switch next to it.

Re: locked out of my trunk
sounds like to me the driver's door and ignition was re keyed maybe....you could have new locks put in to all match....the ignition key fits ignition....and all of rest are on door key.
If you have all options except defrost you should have electronic hatch release located in center behind shifter.
And sorry but your car is not a rare model....sorry those would be cars under 1,000 made, like
TTA's, R7U A4U, 1LE's, and maybe even B4C's (LOL)

Well, if you run out of other options, I guess you could take a dremel and cut an access hole in the rear plastic. That's a whole lot easier to replace than damaging the bodywork from outside. Whatever you do, don't try and pry it open from the outside, that will just tear stuff up.

Re: locked out of my trunk
what i was hoping for is a way to jump the motor with a lead so it will lift up like which wire goes to to the hot side of the motor so i can run a battery lead all i no is that there is no cockpit switch that a new should have been but now i will install a button when im done.
the guy i bought it from was a real knuckle head he disconected wires and a ground strap and when he removed his radio he cut back the wires all the back so who knows what else lies in this car ooo yah and realy bad bondo work

Re: locked out of my trunk
I cut a hole in the plastic and then ground down the lock. since I dont have any thing in the car to steel and I just got the car running earlier today im not to worried about it. Also I dont think the electric hatch was a factory option as a matter of fact it looked like a ten yer old put it in.
So I have another Question what wire or wires do I use to put in a hatch release button

Re: locked out of my trunk
Ok, i'm not an expert on this only having one car but I think you'll need to get just the release motor and a switch. On mine the wires were already in place the should be two under your center console so you would have to remove the shifter plate and feel back in the back for them. I used factory switch that I grabbed from the junkyard along with the hatch release so I don't know if other switches can be modded in or not, most likely they can. Your biggest problem will be if there is a hatch release back there does it even works and is ground correctly.

Re: locked out of my trunk
it's more than wires, you need a solenoid from that year model, or one close to it.
After that, get some kind of switch, and mount iit wherever you want. Run a power wire to it, and then to the solenoid. Yes, it's really simple. I added one to my car, here's where I put the switch

Re: locked out of my trunk
Here is what I did to add a electric solenoid from a 87 IROC. I "T"- connected a connector by using the wire that feeds the power to the pull down motor right under the dash. Inline, I connected a starter push button (chrome from Autozone). I mounted the push button in the small hole (close to the fuse box) that is on the underdash plate that covers the drivers underdash ( which look similar to this http://thirdgenranch.com/-strse-59/8...wer/Detail.bok. ) Now run the other end of the inline starter push button to the black wire that leads into the solenoid.

Sounds like your car came from the same person I got mine from.
Wires cut and disconnected and stuff cut out. It's a nightmare to try to figure out what some idiot has done to it before you got it
