Dash light problems?

My instrument panel is very dim when lit even when I have the dash dimmer all the way up. Will replacing those bulbs help any? Also does anyone sell 12v leds to replace those? Also are the headlight, fog light and defrost switches supposed to light up? Is there separate bulbs in there or do I have to buy new switches to get them to light up?

Once more thing... My tach just pegs to about 5 when I start the car. I used a test light on the contacts on the dash and the light gets brighter when I hit the gas so this mean im getting a good signal and my tach is bad i guess? Thanks in advance!

EDIT - I have a 86 Z28 automatic hardtop.. sorry I made a sig but I dunno why it didnt show up.

Welcome to TGO. Year, make and model are helpful in diagnosing problems or offering advice. The dash bulbs can be replaced with higher intensity 194's or LED's.

As the question is asked frequently (as most are), a search will provide more insight.
