Power antenna??

Can I put a power antenna on a 92 bird that didn't come with that feature?

Re: Power antenna??

I don't see why not. I don't have any experience with thirdgen power antennas, but the only problems I can see are that you might need to make a bracket to mount the motor to and you might have to run all of your own wires.

This thread makes it seem like it's no big deal. At least on an '84. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...ld-thread.html Start at post #13.

Re: Power antenna??

I have moved the one off my 83 to my 89 and then to the 90. I'll send it to ya for free if you want.

Re: Power antenna??

You will be able to mount it no problem. I took out of an '88 Trans Am and put it in my '88 Bird, and it would work for any other years too. The power wires run through the same rubber gasket hole as just the plain antennas. Only modifications i had to do with mine is run a power and a remote, of which comes from the radio. If you were vigilant enough to take apart a car to do it "correctly", you could get the pin out of the radio harness and trace the single orange wire all the way to the driver side kick panel. But if not, bolt it up, plug it in, and wire the remote from the radio and the power from a 12v source and you're done.

Special things to watch and make sure you have are the special adapter for the fender...might look the same but power antenna has a different adapter of which I lost mine some how, and ordered a new one from one of our sponsors.

Also remember the power antenna relay inside, it's mounted underneath the knee panel on the passenger side (firebird) and unsure where it is in a camaro, probably similar location underneath the "hush" panel.

Only thing i dislike about the power antenna other than replacing it with a new motor will be over $100, is the fact that it goes up and down everytime the car is turned on and off, reguardless of if you are using a CD. I took the time and money, got the "Performance Sound" subwoofer switch and wired that on/off switch to the remote wire, so that i can control whether the antenna goes up or down. With the car on, and i can pull the antenna up by turning on the switch, and pull it down by turning the switch off. But if I know i'll be using my CD player like i do about 90% of the time, i'll leave the switch off and won't waste the already 20 year old motor's life. Any other questions, feel free to ask.

I recommend running another switch so you control it as well. Otherwise, I think there is a radio power outlet on the fuse box.
