very weird connector? anyone ideas?
ok im under my dash organizing all my custom wires for all my accessories.
i notice this connector covered in black duck tape. (havent seen that in a long time.)
and i rip it off and theres a 2 wire connector with what looks like a diode shuved into the terminals.
now what the heck is goin on? that cant be factory???
and im the 3rd owner. why would someone put it there?
car runs fine but what the heck is it?

Would this be on the Camaro, or the Firebird??
Camaro, I'll check mine to see if I have one also, Firebird, maybe for the pop up headlights????
I checked my Camaro electrical service manual, and came up with nothing for the Camaro, and of course it shows nothing for the Firebird.

thanks for replying.
this is for my 1986 trans am v8 tpi automatic
no idea what it could be. but it has tape over it so i doubt its factory
the connector can be found just behind the fuse box coming off a wire harness from the inner fender/kickpanel area. like way up into to the dash side.

Actually, it is factory, it's wrapped up in the same cloth black tape as the one for the A/C, which is taped up at the end of the A/C compressor harness!! It's really easy to see that one on an F-body that hasn't got the A/C, but the wiring harness is built that way!! The reason that I believe that it's for your pop up headlights is the 1967 Camaro RS has the same under dash diode, on the same coloured wire!! Basically the diode makes a one way "street" for the electricity, it can't flow backwards!! It helps to protect the motors......and to prevent run on!!

wow thats very interesting. i re-wrapped it in electrical tape. the black duck tape was too worn out.
but wow i would never think it was factory. just shuving a diode in there like that.
i figured they see that as an oppurtunity as putting the diode in fancy connector packaging and boost the price tag on it haha.
but thank you DAN61 i feel better knowing its factory and not what some other owner did. ive seen some bonehead stuff done to my car that i had to fix or do better.
thanks again

I'll keep poking around the "net" until I can come up with something concrete about it, but as I said before, I believe it's got something to do with your pop up head lights!!

i have the same thing in my 86 trans am,with black duct tape! dont have a clue yet,but i have the whole dash face down on a couch! and im in the process of rewiring the whole car, originally computer controlled carbm5 spd, now converting to 87 iroc tpi,5spd,with the camaro wiring for motor, but keeping trans am inner harness for dash and headlights ect,,,,what a mess! have to repin everything, nothing is plug n play, ill let you know when i figure this one out, since im goin wire by wire ,figuring out everything and removing all thats useless.
