Re: 4th gen ecm?

Not unless you're running a 4th gen wiring harness and engine, induction, sensors, tranny, etc. The 4th gen is an OBDII, the 3rd gen is an OBDI.

Your info states carbed 305 - there were no carbed 4th gens anyway - there's nothing in a 4th gen ECM that would apply to your car if it's carbed 305

Re: 4th gen ecm?

Not stepping on any toes here, some information slightly incorrect.

93-95 4th gens are OBD1 and 96-2002 4th gens are OBD2.

No feasible reason to try and run a carbed motor with a 4th gen ECM/PCM, although, i have been curious if you can run a TPI motor with a 4th gen PCM and then utilize the easily programable PCM and/or the electronically controlled automatic transmission. Obviously tuning would be involved, but i'm not sure if anyone has tried and truely failed at doing this.

What exactly are your intentions for using a 4th gen ECM/PCM? Are you going TPI or staying carb?

Re: 4th gen ecm?

Some 93ish Chevy trucks have a stand alone trans computer for the 4L80E, it is programmable. That's what i'll be using on my 4L60E swap this spring. FWD guys have used it in a few different applications.

Just thought i'd throw that out there...

Re: 4th gen ecm?

Naw, that comment was to newbie, i didn't want to **** anyone off when i corrected about the 4th gen obd1/obd2 breakdown. It is a valid question and thus why i brought up whether or not u were going to use a TPI system, because i would be interested in seeing a TPI system run off of a LT1 PCM. No harm no fowl.

Re: 4th gen ecm?

got any wiring advice? i just started today, and a good part of my 3rd gen conecctors seem to just plug right in to the 4th gen ones. i'm on the instrument cluster and the pineout i have dosen't seem to help me. the 94 conector block for b,c, and d only goes 6 wires accross and the pineout says there should be 14. now rows "A" and "E" i do go to 14, maybe more. could really use some help if you could

Re: 4th gen ecm?

Honestly i don't know much about the 4th gen dash swap, although there have been many documented uses of it online. Searching for specifics may help you out, and finding the schematics for your car along with the donor dash will be crutial. I wish you luck!

Found some dash schematics, they say they are good for 82-85 but i can't be sure. Check wire colors and locations and you should be able to figure out if the application will work for you. Good luck!

Read the OBDII TPI sticky in the TPI section. Its a great way to improve the control of a TPI system

Re: 4th gen ecm?

I will do that, thank you for pointing that out. I thought i breezed through that thread and it sounded like they were using something other than an LT1 harness, of which i was kind of curious at the time why they didn't use a 94/95 OBD1 LT1 harness, i will re-read through that again though.

Re: 4th gen ecm?

The LSx PCM can also control a LTx engine, but its not as easy
