help me out please i removed my ecm and im not sure what wires i can cut from passenger side i cut the fuel-injection wires that were there but what else can i cut i am going tbi to carb thanks.
Re: no ecm
Stop saying that in every carb swap thread because not EVERYONE uses a 90-92 car. Earlier cars sent vital wiring and some gauge wiring through the C207 and C221. 95% of the pass wiring WILL go away but not necessarily all of it

Re: no ecm
Sorry - every thread I've read on here for the last 5 years regarding any year TBI car has stated to rip the pass side wiring out - and this is the first time I've ever seen anyone dispute it. So I guess I've gotten my false info off the thousands of threads discussing the subject over the years. But if it's only 1990+ cars, so be it - I wouldn't figure there'd be any difference between the wiring on a 1989 TBI car and a 1990 TBI car - but given some of GM's other engineering wonders, there may well be.
Personally, no matter what the year, I don't like ripping the wires out - they can all be tucked away, and they come in handy for use when you need a wire from cabin to underhood. But the status quo here likes to rip it all out, and then spend their life running new wires from cabin out.
In the end, I doubt it matters to many, no one ever seemed interested in my thoughts of leaving it in tact and tucking it away until you KNOW what you need. Very few folks here have the patience to trace any wire and see where it goes - if they did they'd stop asking the question anyway and trace the wires themselves. But most are impatient and want a quick 5 minute fix without any forward thought past getting their 350 cranked for the first time. But to each his own I guess - my harness is still in tact with the exception of the 3 wires I've used for other gadgets, and will remain so .... tucked away out of sight.

If you dont know something for sure, find out and then fill everyone else in. Just because you read it somewhere doesnt automatically mean its the truth
V6 and TPI guys do the carb swap as well, clustering it into TBI only stuff will overextend your reach
If you want a specific example, try C207 pin D
In 89 this was the coolant fan 12v IGN leg of the relay circuit
In 90-92 V6 and TPI cars had this for the ECM to speedo
90-92 TBI cars didnt use the pin at all, they use pin K like most older cars
Thats concerning ONE pin between two year sets. Now count the wires to the pass side, thats alot of possible changes

Re: no ecm
keep im mind that the torque converter lockup wiring and the speed sensor wiring, if equipped, run through that harness, dont want to cut those either.
best way to do it is to take the harness apart, wire up the new engine with the wires you need, then trace all the rest back to the fender, after the car is running and everything works, then start cutting if you so desire.
i cut all the unneeded wires off at the fender, but left the tcc lockup wiring and the speed sensor wires taped up in the fender incase i ever decide to use them again.
