How did you get to the starter/ignition cables?

I was attempting to install a remote starter in my 86 trans am tpi 305

i unbolted the 2 13mm nuts and lowered the steering columb.

i was able to unplug the black and blue connectors

but even with the steering lowered as far as it would go I still had very little room and very little slack and i did not have enoguh room to work and splice into the starter/12v/accessory/ignition wires.

what did you guys do?

also when i lowered the steering columb i heard a cracking sound. i looked in the engine bay and theres like a brittle plastic/rubber boot that cracked thats part of holding either oil or grease in the steering columb. its jsut after the bolt holding the steering columb to the bar that goes to the gear box.

is this a problem or what? idk if i can even replace that boot anymore.

Do you want your remote starter for working on the engine?
Why don't you tap into the harness under the hood?
Did that with mine and tapped into the purple wire, but that's my truck
I also added a kill switch under the hood. Tapped into the Bat+ to the Dizzy

only because everything is right there at that single connector instead of having wires go all over the place.

stretch to battery. then down and under to the starter. then i dont even know where the accessory and ignition wires are.....

but whatever i dont need to have a remote starter it was just part of the alarm system i have and was just trying to do it all.

Ah, an alarm hookup
You led me to believe you were installing a remote starter
What you are doing is correct to hook up the starter kill for your alarm

Re: How did you get to the starter/ignition cables?

so anybody else have same problem?

also im stil trying to find out if i need to worry about that steering shaft boot that cracked....... its just after the connecting bolt in the engine bay between the shaft and interior steering columb. its eithwer a rubber or plastic boot that is hard and cracked.
