Adding electric fan, 1982 TA CFI stock

Is it possible to add an aftermarket single fan to a 1982 Crossfire FI engine and remove the clutch fan?

I would also update my alternator from the original to a 100 or 140 amp. Could my original wire harness be safely used not over burdening it? I would buy a fan harness that turns on at 180 and shut off at 170.

I am some what electrically challanged. Thanks in advance, David

If your clutch is non electrical, then yeah you shouldn't have a problem, you might have to use a different pulley... so if your fan is not controlled in any way by your ECM, then you shouldn't have a problem... on the alternator, make sure that it's not worn or falling apart, but I would actually recommend that you upgrade your cables anyway... the positive, negative, engine ground... just to be on the safe side...

A thermal switch controlled electric fan is simple. Buying a kit should be all you need. Hookups should be 12v battery, ground and plugging the thermal switch in. Some more in depth kits have a separate 12v IGN wire to prevent the fan from staying on once the engine is shut down

Both styles are completely self sufficient
