dash lights fuse blowing when i hook up stereo !!!! please help
ok my 5 amp dash illumination fuse blows when i have the factory stereo in, either i can listen to music or i have no dash lights, so i went and bough an Alpine deck , installed it using wire harness so i dont cut the factory radio wires,, everything works perfect except now i have no dash lights, i unpluged the deck changed the fuse and i have dash lights again, !!!!!!!!! what is the problem, is it the red wire or yellow or the ground, this is so frustrating for me, thank you guys for any help.
Re: dash lights fuse blowing when i hook up stereo !!!! please help
the gray wire is voltage supply for inst. illumination.unfortunately this wire reads as an excellent ground when lights are not switched on.have seen this mistake a million times.make sure wgray wire isnt connected to anything .....not needed for aftermarket unit.find another ground source for radio.hope it helps.
Re: dash lights fuse blowing when i hook up stereo !!!! please help
thanks for ur help, ok i just took out my stereo , unpluged completely and the fuse still blows, i made a big mistake now and put a 10 amp instead of a 5 amp and the fuse didnt blow but now i have no dash lights at all, i think i blew my dimmer switch module again which i just changed yesterday , so the prob is nor my stereo now i guess, do u think its my ignition when i start the car? cause my ignition is very kinda seized i always have to pull on it backwards then forward to start vehicle !!!!!!!
Re: dash lights fuse blowing when i hook up stereo !!!! please help
doubt its the ign. switch....dont think that circuit runs up column.after you replace dimmer module try installing a 5 amp breaker or one slightly smaller if you can find one and unplug items on this circuit until stops shorting.make sure wiring for prndl bulb not tangled in shifter.finding short is difficult repairing short is usually simple.
