so my car started on fire...

my 91 rs started on fire earlier today...I heard the car start turning over and I thought someone was trying to steal it or something. So I run outside find the car sitting completely unattended just turning over and over. It didn't start cuz their obviously wasn't any ignition or gas. In short the wires to the starter melted through and shorted out as a result of some crappy mechanic work that I had done on it. Good news is the battery didn't blow, the starter seems ok, and the paint on the hood looks ok.

So this is where it gets relavent to the electronics forum, I believe that the fire occured do to a combination of inadequetly shielded wires and/or wires that couldn't handle the current. So I'm doing it myself this time and I dont want to have to be spraying chemical crap all over my car again.

So I have 400ci small block with a mini torque starter, any suggestions on what guage of wire to run and any creative ideas on how to run it? (the idiot that did it last time ran the wires between the headers)

Would much appreciate any help thanks.

You just want to make sure you don’t leave enuff slack for it to rub thru to the conductor.

If a run is long enuff to flop around you should install a cable clamp to secure it.

You can move up a size to 1/0 AWG.

You can also move up to Teflon insulation.
