A/C wiring help

I have an 83 T/A that has undergone an engine swap.Today I hooked up the A/C system for the first time.No leaks so far but i am having trouble with the electrical part of the system. The blower works fine and everything else does also except the compressor. It will not engage the clutch.I can run a hot wire from the battery and it wil come on and blows cold air.Seems to be getting no power from the car itself.Don't see any loose wires or connectors.Where does this connector get it's power from?Is there a relay or something I have missed?Hopefully someone knows the answer because I just had it painted black and it is getting hot. Thanks

a/c compressor clutch is controled by the ecm.If a big deal to fix just run a wire to dash and use toggle switch.

On a '83?
Even on later cars the ECM only turns the radiator fans on when A/c engaged

Compressor Messer

You never want to “just run a wire to dash and use toggle switch”.

That would bypass the safety features which prevent the pressure becoming too high and damaging the compressor, and prevent the compressor from turning if the a leak develops and causes the compressor to turn with no lubrication.

You need to find out what happened.

Make sure the comp-clutch is still grounded after the swap.

There is a relay, usually located at the left front area of the dash.

Find out if it energizes.

Happy Racing!

Re: A/C wiring help

Well I think I have it narrowed down to two possibilities.I checked the pressure switch on the dryer,it seems to be fine. There seems to be some sort of relay on the firewall that is associated with the A/C and maybe something else(not sure). This relay is not pulling together and making contact. If I insert my test light into it,the compressor works as it is supposed to.So,either the relay is bad or the A/C controls inside the car are not telling it to make contact.I can,t see anything else that it could be.Any thoughts?
