rpm gauge problem

rpm gauge problem
I have a 88 camaro. When i turn the car on the rpm gauge goes all the way up and wont com back down.what could be wrong

Axle/Gears: G80,10 bolt 3.42's

Its a common problem.I dont personally know how to fix it but some guys do.Use the search feature and try "tachometer fix" or "tach is way off"You could also buy an aftermarket tach if you like.
