Alternator draining battery?
Quick question, I have been having a battery drain issue that usually kills the battery within 4-5 days. I was told by a friend that the internals in an alternator can go bad and drain the bat. I told him that I had the alternator tested and it checked out fine but he said that it would still check out fine and the only way to know is to disconnect the alternator hot wire and see if the battery still drains. Has anyone heard of or experienced this kind of situation before?

Have you checked the fuel pump to see if it's running constantly? The oil pressure sending unit can go bad and make the fuel pump run all the time, regardless of the key - and that will drain the battery in about 4 days.

I did find the source of my battery drain, and it was easier than I thought it would be. Turns out the rear view mirror courtesy lights were burnt out on both sides... the switch to turn them on and off was in the constant on position. I only found this out after I decided to replace any burned out bulbs I could find on the car just to eliminate any possibilities, and sure enough that was it.

Really doesn't make much sense. If the bulbs weren't there to draw current, then the switch position shouldn't matter. That's why the 2 guys before me are scratching their heads.

i had the same problem and found out that the pressure switch for the over head light on the passenger side door was not working properly and was staying on all the time btu the bulb was dead and i fixed that and havent had the problem since. im not sure why it does it but even with a dead bulb its still sending power to it.

if a bulb is burnt it creats and open in the circuit, no current can flow its the same as having a switch in the circuit in the on position, basic electrical theory. The burnt out bulbs were not the source of ur parasitic drain.
