Re: t/a electrical issue

its definitely a problem. i see a lot of electrical tracing in your future. my only guess is that somehow the lights where wired into the brake lights.

Re: t/a electrical issue

I'm sorry... I don't mean to laugh, but each time I read your original post, it makes me imagine how comical this situation must be, and I lol. It's kind of like thinking about an old slap-stick routine where one thing goes wrong, then another, and so-on, each time leaving the subject more and more confused and annoyed, wondering what's going to happen next lol.

I had a friend whose horn would honk everytime he rotated the steering wheel to turn a corner, which was hilarious lol... but hey, you always knew when he was turning into the driveway!

But moving on... I don't think there's an easy answer for you, other than you tracing wires from sources to the fuse box, then the fuse box to switches, etc., seeing what's still connected correctly and what's been jury-rigged by past owners, and then putting it all back together the way it's supposed to be. That's basically what travis was saying too, I think.

I went through this very thing with an '89 'vert I bought in 2007. Wow, what a mess its wiring was. I spent more time fixing wiring than I did driving the car.

Parking lights, taillights and the dash lights all run off the 'tail' fuse, but dash lights have their own circuit 'inst lp' that runs through the 'tail' circuit, so all of those work in conjunction with each other.

But brake lights have a fused circuit of their own.

So it sounds like the wires that were supposed to go to the 'tail' circuit have been mistakenly connected to the 'brake' circuit.

I wish there was an easier solution for you, but I don't think there is. So just start checking fuses and running wires until you get things sorted out. Good luck... and get some knee pads.

Re: t/a electrical issue

Is the wiring original to the car? Original to the year // model?

Our Camaro did that. After a bottle of Tylenol, I found TGO. I posted my first thread about it.
( edit )
Not in any way saying this is the answer-very similar symptoms!!!
