fusible link between bat and alt?

i've got a 5.7 tpi car, 87 gta, and neither one of my alternators is giving any charge when installed in the car but they test on a bench fine. are there fusible links or fuses between the battery and alternator? anything else that could cause the alternator not to give any charge, outside of the alternator itself?

edit - its a single alternator configuration, i just have two alternators, and neither works when installed in the car.
