Starter Recommendations?

Engine: 350 SBC Or 7.07 Tonys,305stock
Transmission: Big Ugly, 700r4
Axle/Gears: 4th gen rear disk 3.42 lsd,9 bolt

Sounds like the starter is to close. Have you shimed a starter before?

LOL no paper clips. 1/8" welding rod but I never have any I use Allen wrench. You need a 1/8" gap between the flywheel and the armature in the starter. The armature is What the starter gear rides on. If the gap is to small ( less then 1/8) and shims to inside starter mounting bolt. If it's to big( more then1/8) and shims to the outside starter mounting bolt. Sorry if I'm not real clear

Haha, now I know what you think I meant. I didnt mean to use the paper clips for the shims, just for gauging distance. But, I understand what you are talking about when it comes to distance, but you sort of lost me when it comes to the inside and outside mounting bolt.

Alright, I got what your saying. Thanks a ton for the help. Thought I was the only one up this late. I may be back on later in the day if I cant figure this thing out.
