Alt differences????
Today my husband and I were at the parts store getting a new alternator that was covered under warranty. Their tester said it passed but we knew for a fact it was bad. After talking to the guy for 20 minutes he decided he would honor the warranty. After looking up my info he went and got the new alternator but noticed it was a different part #.
Now we have a few different year F-bodies. The one we were working on was the 92 Camaro RS. The guy at the auto parts store said the only one they had in stock was for an 89 RS. They looked identical but I decided to wait til I was sure if it would work. I guess my question is, is there any difference in an 89 alternator and a 92? Ive put one from my 92 into my 86, 89, and 90 TA. Will this cause damage or is it just that they may have changed stock #'s? I mean everything is identical on the 2 alternators. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance... I know I dont have to say it because you already know but I will anyways......you guys are the sh*t!!!! Thanks again.
Cheers

Re: Alt differences????
If it looks the same and has the same connectors ; no problems.
Sometimes year to year differences in output Amps; later cars had more electronics so common for higher rated Alt to be used

Re: Alt differences????
If the 89 and 92 both have serp belts, then no difference. Usually the differences are in the mounting holes - soe are at 12oclock and 6oclock (non-serp systems), and others are closer to 12oclock and 4oclock.
