Reman ECM. What solenoids and relays need testing?
Hi guys. I need to test the solenoids and relays on my 86 IROC-Z. I bought a Cardone 1 Reman ECM from Autozone. On the ECM it reads,
CAUTION: Before installing this ECC, you must test all solenoids/relays for proper resistance values. Any resistance value(s) less than 20 OHMS will destroy the replacement unit and VOID THE WARRANTY.
I know I must test the EGR Solenoid, Vapor Canistor Purge Solenoid. What other solenoids and relays do I need to test guys?

well first off, I've replaced 3 different ECMs on different vehicles, and have never tested the solenoids...
why are you swapping the ECM?

Re: Reman ECM. What solenoids and relays need testing?
I kept getting a T.C. 51 (bad PROM/ECM). So I needed to verify which was bad. So I bought a Reman ECM and tested it. Bang, code 51. I went back to A.Z. and requested another ECM because of the failure. Bang, another code 51. So obviously the Hypertech PROM took a dump. So before I buy a piggyback board for my OEM 86 IROC PROM (to override the 305 tables with 350 tables), I want to test all solenoids/relays just so that I can rest assured. Plus the Cardone 1 Reman ECM says to or the warranty will be voided.
OHHH, and to answer the question, I might as well keep the Reman since its been resoldered and all that good stuff. Plus A.Z. wont accept a used ECM.

well unless you go in there and tell them... "hi I want to return this, btw I didn't check the solenoids prior to installation" they won't know...
did you make sure that you are getting juice from all areas that the ecm is supposed to receive power from?

Ya. Everything is fine. Its just that I dont wanna run into troubles later on down the road. My main curiosity is which wires in the pinouts should I test for the 20 OHM resistance.
The pinout diagram can be found here 1986-89 pinouts (ecm #1227165)

Check all circuits that the ECM controls. EGR, TCC, Purge Sol, IAC, etc. Also wiggle test these circuits and the 5volt reference circuit for intermittent short to ground. One point though. A short in any of these circuits should have set a DTC for that system. So for peace of mind test away. But in the end your probably fine installinbg the new ECM. BTW A-1 Cardone isnt the best quality. Have had alot of comebacks on their parts. Did you get the AZ lifetime warranty? Or will they do that on ECUs?

I didnt even know they had lifetime. I may just go back and return it since my old ECM never gave me issues (havent turned in the core). Hey, thanks for the heads up on the wiggle test. Never thought of that. I should be find then because the only TC that Ive gotten lately is the TC 51. Will do the wiggle test. Thanks guys.
