Wiring Under The 92 Z28 Console
Can anyone tell me what this wiring connector is called? It has 6 wires attached and is under the shifting console. The wire order is Red, Light Blue, Green, Brown, Black and Blue. The Black and Blue are larger than the other four. The reason I ask is because I found out that my car would not start and it was the Brown wire that had come loose from this "thingamajig". The Brown wire attached to the shift indicator and since it was disconnected, the car told itself "I'm not in park so I'm not going to start". It seems the wires should go into a male connector and the two peices should snap positively together. Right now it is hit or miss if the road vibrations make the wires come out again. So, is there such a connector to put the two together or do you just tape the heck out of it and hope they dont separate? Thanks. Re: Wiring Under The 92 Z28 Console
Is that a non-stock shifter? The right half of that plug looks like the gear selector switch plug. What's visible of the shifter looks aftermarket, which would explain the hokey wiring.

Yes, it is a B&M Megashifter put in by one of the automotive shops here. Everything works correctly but the wire colors don't match what I've found on the internet and it seems strange that they are just pushed in there and not connected to a "male" clip and then snapped together. I believe this is part of the Neutral Safety Switch system.

It's the neutral safety switch, reverse lights, etc... Normally the black half of that plug, connects directly to the switch. Short of going back to the old gear selector switch, you're stuck with spade terminals. You can tape the bundle together, but ultimately it's just the kind of thing that comes with aftermarket parts.

Got it. I was wondering where the switch actually went and now I know.
Thanks for the help.

you can install the wires, make sure they are snug, then use a Hot Glue Gun to run a line across all of them and the housing they plug into, this will hold them in place, and can at any time be removed by hand easy,
the hot glue drys in secs. making a soft wire block that holds all the wires has one unit, you can then also use a Small Zip tie to Keep it pluged in..
they will not fall out or come unpluged, with out you pulling it apart, you can get a hot glue gun for under $3.00 at walmart.
