Cigarrete lighter blowing fuses?
I have some outer led lights i bought for my car that light up my dashboard which is good i bought them because lately the stock dashboard lights have been going off with fuses blowing and i wouldnt have been able to see anything if i didnt have those lights on the outside.
They get their power through the cigarette lighter but today the fuse in the adapter that connects to the cigarrete lighter blew up...So now not only am i blowing fuses in the car...but the lights i bought as a back up are blowing too through the cigarette lighter.
Any advice on fixing this?
Should i avoid connecting anything through the cigarrete lighter? could it be that those lights have been causing me issues with the car fuses too?
Drawing too much power?
How can i fix this or troubleshoot it?What to look for?
Thanks

Well if your dash lights are frequently blowing fuses, chances are some nitwit wired up an aftermarket radio and the illumination wires (which probably aren't used with the deck) are just hanging loose and grounding randomly which will instantly pop the fuse.
Your cigarette lighter is fused at the fuse block, if your adapter is popping fuses, you're probably drawing too much current. Either way, you need to fix the problem and stop trying bandaid fixes. Most of those cheap gimmick riceroni lights are pure garbage anyway. The easy fix is to place them in the can by the curb next garbage day.

Should i check behind my radio for any loose wires and tape them up with some electric tape? When i bought the car it had no radio and my cousin put a cheap little jvc radio on it but there is a few loose wires behind it that dont seem to connect to anything i have.(previous owner supposedly had a system in it) Should i just go ahead and tape them up and see how that goes?
What should i look for exactly to determine if the wires are touching ground, any contact with metal?
Re: Cigarrete lighter blowing fuses?
Pretty much... Look for any clipped or bare wires that could touch metal or other wires. Look specifically for the brown and gray wires.
