VATS ignition key

I want to get a spare set of keys for my 89 IROC with VATS. I do not live in the US but am coming over for a holiday in July (Anaheim CA) so want to get some spare keys then if I can. Do GM dealers still stock these keys or if not, are there any retailers, locksmiths or the like who might stock them?

Re: VATS ignition key

You can buy them online ( ships worldwide ) for $10 or both keys for $13
Check out eBay items # 370391384067 and 200478180983

You need to know what # key ( 1 of 15 possible ) you have so as to buy correct one .Being where you are you may have to measure the resistance of the pellet in the key yourself

Locksmiths apparently have the keys at cheaper prices than dealership

Re: VATS ignition key

Just about any Ace Hardware store stock them and can cut them as well, about $25. Maybe True Value hardware stores also.

Re: VATS ignition key

Anytime you have a hardware store cut a key, you have a good 75% chance that key isn't going to work. If you aren't bringing the car to the store so you can test them right away, save your money and go to a REAL locksmith.

Hmmm - I've had 5 VATS keys cut at my local ACE with no issues ever - oh well - every store is different.

Re: VATS ignition key

Most any good locksmith that has reasonable experience with auto keys will have the key blanks at a reasonable cost. If you haven't yet found out what your key resistance # is they can tell you as long as you bring the key
