Ignition Lock Cylinder the same 89 and 88?

I need to change the Ignition lock cylinder. I know 89 has the vats, but I had looped it few years ago so I dont need that. Now the question is Can I buy the cheaper older models and install it? In other words everything else is the same with the cylinder size and fitment?

Thanks,

Should be the same. I used an 89+ cylinder in my 88.

If you installed a resistor of the correct value
then you can use a regular Ignition lock.. they are the SAME minus the VATS connections

For those who will have the same question:

Older locks ( prior to 89) will fit, but it needs a little work. I had to saw the whole and make it biger for the pin that holds the cylinder. Not too hard but I suggest get the 89 with VATS even if you have disabled it.
