More Guess the wire

Hi, I am in need of your help again. I cannot for the life of me figure out what this is. First off, I am trying to find a ground that isn't connected to run my rear taillights and brake lights. i saw this wire when i was fixing my hatch and didn't pay any attention, but everyone keeps telling me i have a bad ground. it's an orange wire, with would lead me to believe it's hot, testing with a volt meter confirmed this, but I do not know what it was supposed to go to. it is just hanging loose

Thanks in advance.

Re: More Guess the wire

It's for the rear compartment light, the connector in the white to black wire goes to a switch in the rear compartment panel that allows you to manually switch the light on & off by making or breaking the ground connection. Some setups have a motor switched light. I have one like that but it looks like yours is a manually switched one. The one I have has an additional black wire w/ connector going to the pulldown motor and it internally switches the ground when the hatch is up. Yours has a normal case ground.
