need help converting my cut up EFI harness to carb setup
Ive decided to go carb and ditch the EFI since my motor/trans/ECM/all connectors/sensors were stolen from my car and they hacked up the wiring harness so badly that i dnt have anything in the engine bay for wiring. they really only hacked up the EFI harness on the pass side since they just cut everything off when they took the engine/trans. the driver side harness is fine except all the wiring to the cooling fans/starter/alternator is gone too.
what i need help is converting my stock 87 TPI harness to a carb setup. I realize certain things wont work like my stock speedo (since im not going 700r4 but going with a ford C6 and a 521cuin BBF!!) stock speedo will be sold and i will be going with a setwart warner speedo and a autometer electric speedo sender.
Couple of things...
1.) can i reuse my stock TACH? its just a white wire to the coil correct?
2.) How can i wire up my own charging system for an alternator?
3.) need to fabricate my own starting wire harness as well
4.) they hacked up my HEI remote mount coil ignitin that i have nothing so can i still use HEI and a carb setup? how can i fabricate my own ignition harness?
i want to tie this all into the stock harness (driver side) since this is most of all i need to run a non EFI setup. converting to carb and how do i do it with the harness! i also called painless wiring and they said the wiring kits are useless for the 3rd gen, they only deal with older cars. so i need to make all this from scratch! please help

You’re correct about the tach.
It’ll hookup to the coil.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Here’s how the alt will hookup.
The positive stud on the alt, will go to the battery.
Terminal S goes to 12 volts.
Terminal T goes to any HOT IN RUN circuit.
As always, use fuses or fusible links.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
You can start on those items, more to come, or maybe someone will have time to chime in with the rest.

Re: Hack Attack
do u have a diagram? thanks btw.
i figured out that the tach would work last nite as i pulled my entire dash apart and figured out the wiring harness for the back of the instrament panel. Im alittle weary about the ignition, it seems pretty simple but can i run a HEI system without a ECM? or am i stuck with old school remote mount coil HEI with the oil filled coil. this engine will be a 521cuin BBF stroker and put out lots of power so im gona need an ignition system to lite this baby up! im hoping a 45,000v coil HEI would work but im prob on the brink of an ignition box.
also im planning to copy the racetronix fuel pump harness, they run 10gauge wire but i have a spool of copper stranded 8gauge wire im thinking of using. 8gauge is prob over kill but does anyone think ill have a problem with 8gauge for the fuel pump? running right off the alternator with a 40amp relay and fuseable link? Id also upgrade the ground strap to 8gauge too (which is what the racetronix kit does)

Only need to find at firewall connector ,the factory wires you need for carb swap.
Wire to coil ,tacho , Alt wiring , gauges wiring , etc.
You can run any dist you like ; most just need a 12V key on feed to HEI or remote coil dependent apon what type dist you use ( cant reuse factory computer controlled dist ) and tacho hook up
Looky here for wiring diagram for you car

most of the driver side wiring is intact. the wire bundle that goes over/behind the engine from the driver side to the passenger side houses was cut in half, all the tach/distributer wires/connectors is gone.
so i should be able to hook up a vacume advance HEI distributer with the stock wiring? really its just the thick pinkish wire that supports the distributer with power. i tired to jump the fuel pump with 12v and i couldnt get it to kick on.
the tach i can just hook the white wire to the distributer correct? the bundle is so dirty it almost looks cream colored, white tach wire had a gray connector on it right? for quick disconnect?

You might find the diameter inconvenient to use.

Did you rewire that area yet?
