Help! Battery not charging from alternator..

Just completed a engine swap, the battery won't charge from the alternator. I dont see any dashboard light. I've done the following tests..

Removed the harness connector from the alternator, checked for alt light on the dashboard, nothing showing.

With the red battery wire removed from the alternator, checked for output voltage with a multimeter on the connector and alternator body. No voltage found.

Removed the harness connector to the alternator backprobed the red and brown wires on the connector with the ignition on. No voltage found.

I've checked all the fuses, they are all good.

The battery charges from a house charger, cranks and holds a charge fine.

I'm thinking that the 'brown' wire is used to 'turn on' the alternator, and there should be 12volts there with the ignition on?

Any ideas on where to look next?

Thanks RS.

Yes, you need +12v on the field terminal of the alternator or there'll be no charge.

Thanks for the info, I traced the brown wire back and found a butt connector that had come away where it was previously repaired. Replaced and tested ok!
