vss code 24

I have an 87 IROC, 305 tpi, 5 speed manual. I took the original gauge cluster out and replaced it with all new Autometer gauges. The old speedo was mechanical, the new one is electronic. Now, when I drive the car, I get a code 24, vehicle speed sensor. I have also noticed the idle dropping down when coasting to a stop. I know the vss on this car is only for supplying the ECM with information about the vehicle's speed. Question: Is there any way to wire the new electronic speedo input into the harness so the ECM is getting the info. If not, how can I get rid of the code? I like for the check engine light to work but I don't like seeing it on all the time.

Re: vss code 24

i apologize, but i do not have a solution for your problem, but i do have a question about the particular sensor.
my car has a carbeuretor, and cruise control, automatic trans, and a mechanical speedo. i have the same code (24) and have had it for quite some time.
what is it going to effect if it's not replaced?

Make sure the VSS signal is going to the buffer (usually a yellow box behind the dash) then going to the ECM pin A10.

If you don’t feel a performance difference it’s not affecting anything.
