the pink distributor wire

the pink distributor wire

the pink wire that plugs into the BAT part of the distributor...does the other end go to the Ignition part of the starter?

Yes, it gets hooked to ignition. Hot with key on and during cranking.

As long as that wire has 12V (and an on/off switch) its happy. Less than 12V can cause misfires.
