Aux Power Source For Hardwired Radar Detector?

This morning I got an itch to get my radar detector working in the camaro. My factor lighter socket does not work properly with the connector. However, it does work so I am not taking the lazy way. I hate to see wires running out of there anyway.

I am going to be putting the radar detector on the dash. I lost the suction cup to mount it on the windshield. I have already spliced the original cable that hooks into the radar detector and it only has a positive and a negative. I'm ready to roll as soon as I get an answer...

1. I was thinking about just splicing into the lighter socket positive and negative. Is there going to be an issue there?

2. If adding the ends to the fuse box is a better approach, which fuse should I tie it into?

This is where I am right now....

In the fuse box, you'll see an empty slot with an arrow pointiing to it, and "RADIO" will be printed at the arrowhead. You can crimp a standard 1/4 spade connector on your pos wire and stick it in the slot. Then just ground the neg wire anywhere. This sonnection will only get power when the radio gets power.
