is this whats causing it?
trying to figure out why it won't spark and found out that i don't have this piece when i removed the coil? would not having this make it not spark?

Disturbing Distributor
That looks like a ground connection for the unit.
Make sure your coil is getting 12 volts, ground, and pulse input.
Hopefully someone that recently did a coil job on that configuration of distributor will chime in and identify that part.
