Spark Is Dark

Using a voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) probe the primary of the coil when the key is in the RUN position.

Is there power?

If no, there is a bad or burned out connection between it and the ignition switch, or power to the switch.

Make sure the coil has a good ground, then: disconnect the 4 terminal connector at the distributor.

Crank the engine while testing for spark.

Is there spark when you try that?

Yes that’s the one.

OK if there was no spark with that 4 pin connector removed, remove the distributor cap.

Then unplug the pickup coil from the module.

Now connect a voltmeter to the tach terminal.

Turn the key to RUN.

Using a 5 volt power supply with a small bulb in series, touch 5 volts to the innermost pin
(it’s labeled P on some brands) of the module.

Now, does the voltmeter sharply decrease when you touch the 5 volts to the module?

If there is no response from the module it’s bad or not grounded.

Re: please help no spark

I kind of have the same problem, I was driving along when my 91 RS camaro just shut off, I replaced the coil, moduel, rotor and cap but still no spark. I have no test equipment to test, It turns over just fine but no spark, could it be the Ignition ( the key part?)

Ditto!

After changing, cap/rotor/ignition module/coil....It was the pick-up inside the dizzy.

I just had that happen last week & fixed it on Monday.

Re: please help no spark

Ok I have the same problem with my 85 Berlinetta 2.8 . It has 16v from the ignition coil to the distributor. and no spark at the distributor to the spark plugs. I disconnected the 4-pin connector from the module connected to the distributor and I get spark and engine almost started, However there is smoke comming from the engine when I try to start it. (might be a different problem)
What exactly is the electronic part that is connected to the distributer and what did I unplug from it? what does that 4-pin connector go to?

You can connect three ‘D’ cell batteries in series.

That will provide 4œ volts which is enuff to do the test.

If you know how to solder you can solder them in series.

If you don’t know how to solder you can go to an electronics parts store and get a battery holder.

Re: please help no spark

Ok, I was able to find the solution to my issue thank you. The distributor was not fully mounted down and the electronic component on the distributor was faulty. Replaced mounted and good to go
