no start

ok heres my problem guys, the other day my car straight up wouldnt start cut it off and ten minutes later nothing. i got it towed home and the next day i tried to startit and kinda wiggled the ignition ( the key part) and it started up, but everytime i would try to start it i would have to fiddle more and more and finally it just stopped working all together. then only it did work in those times is when i would take the ignition and key and push into the column with the key and ignition and push toward the front of the car. well now that dont work, it will crank but wont start if i cross the starter, i can hear the fuel pump prime and its getting fuel but thats it. its a new ignition key cylinder and coded keys. any help would be appreciated!!!

No Start, Let’s Start

Don’t take it for granted the ignition coil is getting power when you jump the starter.

Using a voltmeter or test light
(the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) probe the key side of the coil when you try to start the engine, to make sure the coil is getting 12 volts.

Re: No Start, Let’s Start

it is, 12.1 volts. what goes bad in the column near the key that would make it do this?

Re: no start

Possibly a bad ignition switch on top of the steering column. If wiggling the key made it work that is where I would start to look.

Due to the fact you said the coil is getting 12 volts, the fuel pump is running, and the starter is cranking, but the engine won’t start, a bad ignition switch can’t be the cause of the problem.

Therefore while cranking, check for spark.

If you have no test equipment you can hold a plug wire while a friend cranks (make sure the insulation is OK) near a ground to see if there is spark.
