ignition switch

can the ignition switch down the coulum go bad and if so will it look like the vats is to blame i did the key i did the bypass so it must be the ign. sw. base. any way of checking it to see if it is bad. and how do you get the cable off the back of it.newbie needing help.

If the switch contacts are bad then you don't have 12V going into the starter circuit

thank you again then ,but how can i check it to make sure its bad?and how to get the cable off the back of it .

You have to get the switch off the column with the cable still attached, then you can flip it over and you'll see two little tiny screws that hold the cover over the cable end, take those screws off, seperate the switch covers, and then the cable comes out - it's a real PITA. There's a pin inside that holds the cable, I think it fell out when I did mine. It's hard to describe, kinda just have to dive in carefully and you'll see. Good Luck!

i took it off and put another one on tryed to crank in park / neut. but did not crank. so i thing that is not the problem.
