speedo problem. it only works in reverse
92 3.1 manual. i tested the VSS and it seems to be working. but my car has the 22mm one that cost $100.
So i noticed the speedo works fine in reverse. so i tried switching the wires, didnt change anything. With it working in reverse i am thinking it isn't the vss.
any thoughts??

i just don't have 100 bucks to throw at a new vss if that possibly isnt the problem.
My fuel sending unit (fuel gauge sensor) is junk and i cant afford a new one yet. I looked at the wiring diagram and the fuel unit does connect to the speedo inside the ECM. Is it possible that the fuel sending unit being out could cause my speedo problem??
i did have to jump the fuel pumps orange power wire with the big red one to get my fuel pump to work.
i do not have any codes for the VSS. I read somewhere that i should if the VSS is bad. please help

Seeing as VSS itself appears to be working ( generates a signal regardless which way it is turning )
pull it out and check the gears that drive it.
Make sure the drive gear on the trans output shaft is locked in place and not spinning ( the locking clip can break )

i did stick my finger in the tail shaft lol. But i only felt for if the gear was wore out, not that it moved. Will check tomarrow.

Trouble Code 24 indicates that the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is reporting an abnormally low reading when other sensors indicate it should be higher.
The conditions for setting this code are:
- no Code 33 or 34 (MAF Error) is present, and
- the vehicle speed signal indicates < 4 MPH and
- engine speed is between 1400 and 4400 RPM, and
- during a low load condition (LV8 between 50 and 99), and
- transmission not in Park or Neutral, and
- all conditions met for more than 20 seconds
