87 Camero trunk pull down problem

Greetings, I just joined this site and I hope this is the best starting point for my question. I have an 87 Camero that HAD a functioning rear hatch motor, but suddenly stopped working. I replaced the motor unit as I was told this may be the problem. It still does not work. A friend who is a mechanic and can't find the problem and said he needs the wiring diagram. So I guess I have two questions: 1. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be and 2. Where can I find a wiring diagram of the pull down assembly? Thanks!

Re: 87 Camero trunk pull down problem

Wiring diags for just about everything 3rd gen: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=19

Be warned - most 'mechanics' are NOT - they are techs - mechanics fix things, techs replace things. 98% of all 'mechanics' out there can't even pull codes from the computers in these cars, let alone actually fix anything.

I'm betting it's a switch issue - the pull-down assemblies have several switches that tell it to open, close, etc. Learn to use - there's 1 gazillion threads on every aspect of a 3rd gen car here, and the search works well.

The best way I know to tell anyone how to fix their hatch motor (since it's so hard to describe online) is to remove the whole assembly, take it to a table, and carefully take it apart so you can see how it works, and what is wrong.

AND - they are very delicate items - they were never made to function after 20+ years. PATIENCE and CAREFUL are the key words here. NEVER 'slam' the trunk, never open it with the key from outside. Those small plastic switches inside are at best just hanging on for dear life - their springs wear out the plastic and such.

And check ebay or local junkyards as often as possible for a deal on a spare or 5! These will be the worst part of the car to replace.

Welcome to TGO - this IS the place - everything you'll ever need to know about your car is here - just have to do some searching and asking.

Good Luck! Sorry I can't be of more help - it's just too hard to describe these things.
