Accidentally hooked up battery backwards =[

So, ive been having electrical problems, so from time to time i have the battery disconnected for saftey, well the other day i put it back in an accidentally connected the positives to the negatives. the wire from the alternator to what should have been the positive of the battery melted. Could this have blown the alternator? also what else could have went bad? I no longer have any computers in my car, and the gauges arent in the car.

thanks in advance

Re: Accidentally hooked up battery backwards =[

Yikes. I'd check the fusible links (most run to/from starter), the smaller ground wire that runs from battery to the fender (that would have had a + short on it and thus might have fried), and .... hmmm .... other stuff (how's that for a technical answer ).

all the wires from the starter looked good. I didnt do to much investigating other than replacing the positive battery cable.
