Gauge Fuse Blowing.

Okay so i keep blowing the gauge fuse on my 86 Firebird and I can't figure out why. Whats funny is that it won't blow if I drive normally but the moment I floor it from a stop the gauges go dead and the fuse is blown. I am getting really sick of having to buy fuses to replace the burnt ones anyone have any ideas???

Outrages Gages

Sounds like insulation rubthru.

To find out, temporarily replace the 10 amp GAGES fuse with a 15 amp one.

Then insert a 10 amp fuse in line with the
pink/black wire going into the dash connector, as close as possible to the connector.

Now the next time the gages stop working, see which fuse blew.

If it’s the 15 amp one in the fuse holder, the short is occurring in the harness leading to the dash.

If it’s the 10 amp one in line with the
pink/black wire going into the dash connector, the short is occurring inside the dash.

Happy Racing!

How bout those too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime and the ones that need headlights for a little rain

I am having this same issue. I have the factory manual and I am trying to run down every one of the possibilities but there is so much linked to the one fuse.

Do you have an aftermarket alarm system?

No, I spent all day disconnecting everything that draws power from that fuse and it was ok for about 100 feet and now I am back where I started from.
