New bird, need some VATS help.
I just bought a 89 Firebird yesterday for 400 bucks.

The problem is that the seller did not have the original key for it so i have to bypass the vats system.
When i bought the car the seller gave me a bag of resistors and a key that can turn the ignition module (without the chip) so thats what i have to work with.

Im having a hard time understanding the whole process. (dont even know where to stick in resistors etc)The owner did not look too car savvy and said he gave up because it annoyed him.
I took pictures of what i have right now but i need to know where to begin because im a bit lost. I never had any problems with the vats in my camaro.

Would it be possible swap out my whole steering column into the firebird from my camaro? along with the locks and all? (i cant open the trunk or doors without keys) Or do i have to pay someone to take care of the whole vats system issue.
I plan on swaping in my camaros engine into the firebird and its a carbed motor so would that eliminate the vats problem?
I would like to take care of this myself without further expenses with the help of you guys so please any info u can give me would help.

Resistors go between the two wire in the orange sleeving.
Have to try the 15 different resistor values until you get the right one

Do a search , plenty of posts this year alone ( with pics ) on how to do bypass

Thanks for the reply
Okay I think I pretty much got it but once the resistor is held in place on the tip
Of the orange wire, where do I connect to orange wire?
Can you see the connection in any of the pictures above? And afterwards is it as easy as turning the key?

Re: New bird, need some VATS help.
The two wires in the orange sleeve used to have a connecting plug that plugged into the other end coming out from the firewall down by the base of the column. That plug had two wires, a white with black stripe and a purple with white stripe. Those are the two wire you need to have the resistor between. That way the VATS module on that end of the wires gets the resistance value it needs. Putting the resistor between the wires in the orange jacket would only show the resistance to the key which can't tell anyways. You need to locate that other little plug
