Chime/buzzer unit
I have a 1991 Camaro RS and when I bought it it did not come with a chime box. I've been working on getting all of the little gizmos in the car working properly, so I picked up a couple of the chime units from the junkyard. One from a Camaro (91-92 I believe) and one from a Firebird. Both of the units produce the same results. I plugged one in and it does some funny things, which is probably why it was taken out in the first place. When I insert the key to start the car, the chime cuts in and out and makes a sort of scratchy noise. I assume there is some worn out wiring in the steering column? It comes on fine when the car is off and the lights are on. I also noticed that since I put it in, a seat belt light on the instrument cluster comes on when starting the car. Can someone tell me what all the chime is supposed to do in this car? My friend had a third gen, but his didn't have a chime either. Also, what exactly is the seat belt indicator supposed to do? It only comes on when starting the car. Thanks!

Re: Chime/buzzer unit
in my car the chime will come on when you insert the key into the ignition with the door is open(my car is a 87 z28 305 tpi) when i close the door it turns off. when i turn the ignition on the chime will come on and when i start the car all the lights will turn off and the seat belt light will turn on for 3 or 4 seconds then turn off. the seat belt light is just a light to remind you to put on your seat belt. does the light stay on when you start the car? other than that the light is pretty normal

Re: Chime/buzzer unit
My chime/buzzer always some some funky scratchy noise when starting the car. I think it's because when you start the car, the ignition system robs power from all other circuits - like the lights will dim/go out if you have them on and start the car. All other ties the chime/buzzer worked fine (until I yanked that irritating lil beotch out). PITA when at a cruise in or something where you are always in/out of the car, starting car, etc.
