Distributor problems, engine turns over but won't start up
Hi, this is my first post and im excited to be a new owner of an 84 z28. I just changed my intake manifold and everything seems to be ok, the engine turns over and makes a noise like its going to start, and then it doesnt. I didnt mark the distributor's postition before i took it off, so i think thats my problem, and i cant figure out what i should do
I tried turning the distributor housing a few degrees each way, but that didnt seem to do anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your firing order is probably off. Your going to have to remove the #1 spark plug and place your finger over the hole, then turn the engine over until you feel air pressure against your finger, then turn the engine just enough whichever direction to get the timing mark on the harmonic balancer set to zero on the timing tab.
Then you need to remove the dist cap, and where ever the rotor points, that corresponding wire on the dist cap needs to be the #1 spark plug wire, then follow your firing order around the dist cap with the rest of the wires to the appropriate plugs.

Ok thanks! It might be tricky to get the timing mark to zero because its faded away over time and no longer readable. I'll give that a try though and hopefully it will fire

Well, you need fuel and spark. Have you tried pouring a tiny amount of gas in the carb to see if perhaps you are having a fuel related issue?
