I have an 87 iroc been swapped from tpi to carb before i purchased. I replaced the water temp gauge on instrument cluster, just got water temp sensor, and connector. Hooked everything up to the wires i thought were the right one's ran the car gauge does not work. I followed the diagram shows yellow and black. Anyone show something different??

It sounds like you used the temp sensor for the ECM.
The sender for the gage has a green wire.

Re: Kolor Konfusion

Sender for the guage only has a single wire, dark green. If you got the SENSOR for the ECM that has a two ire connector on it, you got the wrong thing. You want this:

I thought the green wire was for the ecm which turned on the fan(s)? Its the sensor with the pop up button single wire isnt it? I needed both the car has an after market temp gauge.

I bought the 2 wire's from Gm dealership for the 87 iroc, I thought the one with 2 wires was for the gauge thats what the diagram calls " Coolant temp sensor" The other is called "fan switch" Its like a turkey popper it pops at set temp to turn fans on...
I am so GD. Confused Maybe i'm mis reading these diagrams

Re: Kolor Konfusion
That's why I gave you the link to the RIGHT part - to avoid confusion.
There are 3 things that are called "coolant" something ...
1) Coolant Temperature Sender - this is in driver side head, between #1 and #3 spark plug - this feeds the guage (has 1 wire connector - dark green wire)
2) Coolant Tempurature SENSOR - this is in the thermostat housing on top of the intake at front of motor - it sends reading to the computer (has two wire connector - black & yellow wires)
3) Coolant Fan Switch - Pass side head between #6 & #8 spark plug - this senses coolant temp and turns on fan (has the mushroom connector - single wire)
Now - every auto parts place is different, and they all call each one a different thing. Why? Because some computer programmer that set up all these computer applications and websites ... that is a complete idiot when it comes to car parts and couldn't find a gas pedal if his life depended on it ... programmed this stuff.
That's why YOU have to know what it is you need, and LOOK at the part at the store to verify you are getting what you want.
