88 GTA taillightsto 91 Firebird taillights

ok i am trying to do is convert base GTA taillight into firebird taillights firebird taillight i think they look better than GTA but that is just me. my issue is the wiring
if i read right
GTA
white - hazards
light green - backup light
dk green - r turn signal
yellow - l turn signal
brown - rear lights
lt blue - brake
lt blue\wlk stripe - 3rd brake light

Firebird
light green - backup light
dk green - r turn signal
yellow - l turn signal
brown - rear lights
lt blue - brake

now lt blue and white connect together on GTA. my question is can i severed the blue and white wire to make my tailight work properly. basically asking to someone to check my wiring to make sure i dont melt my wiring harness.

thanks

Using 91 tail light wiring harness (7pins) with 88 wiring harness(3 pins and 8 pins)
88 1st section
Blk w/Orange - Cargo light – leave alone
Need to push these wires thru the rubber boot on wiring harness. The reason is because GTA with digital dash has that monitoring system to let you know your tail lights are out.
Purple - left rear lights – cut brown wire that goes into red lamps and solder purple wires to them.
Brn w\white - right rear lights - cut brown wire that goes into red lamps and solder Brn w\white wires to them.

88 2d sections has 8 pins
These wires are obvious to mate with
Red w\ white - power pull down hatch ***note you might have to cut some wiring to make this work properly.
Lt Grn - Backup Light
Dk Grn - Right Turn Signal
Yellow - left turn
Black - Ground
Blue - brake

Leave alone
Blue w\ Blk stripe - 3rd Brake light underneath spoiler

Remove wire section that loops back into blue
White - hazards - which loops back into blue wire

Will add picture when able to

yep really wish some one would make a nice sticky
but you guys got it right so far... but I'm stuck
First I would like to know how connecting the blue form the brake switch to the white from the hazards is not lighting up the front hazards/ turn signals
I think something like this would work
http://www.amazon.com/Curt-Manufactu.../dp/B001EP0GI6
there must be a switch box somewhere
And how the front side markers will flash alternately only if the parking lights are on?
even looking at the wire diagrams it can be a pain

Re: 88 GTA taillightsto 91 Firebird taillights

Um, first off, that white wire isn't for the hazards... It takes the brake signal for the brake lights and reroutes it through the turn signal switch so that the turn switch will actually turn the brake lights on the side that the turn signals are on OFF so that the bulbs will flash with the flasher.

If the brakes are applied with the hazards on, the front markers will stay on steady bright and won't flash (too much resistance/not enough amps in the circuit to use the flasher).

You may have cut the wrong wire, which cut off the front markers. And the front markers alternate due to their design... Something about the resistances of the individual lights being different and one acting as a full-on wire when the other is lit, so it goes out...

Rewiring for the light swap is as simple as locating the C208 connector (with about 12 wires in it or so) under the driver's side kick panel, cutting the wires in slots A and B (white in A and lt blue in B) and connecting them (swapping to GTA/82-84 lights) or cutting the wire in the slot A and running it to B (swapping in the reverse). But on the dash side of the harness, not the body side, which won't work.

Re: 88 GTA taillightsto 91 Firebird taillights

Thanks for clarity...
The white white does come down the column from the hazard/turn switch.
http://www.austinthirdgen.org/mkport...ody_wiring.gif
the diagram shows it connecting to blue wire from brake switch for TA
and for non TA it must still do something?
(why bother with 2 colors? do TA really have them spliced together?)
so in my book cuting the blue wire and connecting it to the white will send the brake siginal UP the columm to the hazzards/turn siginal unit then from there the hazards/turn signal unit divides it up to fire the rear only
Im just concerned as to what the white wire is used for in a non TA.

Anyway brake lights work are fine now just need to find a stronger flasher so turn lamps will stop blinking so fast when parking lamps are on.

Re: 88 GTA taillightsto 91 Firebird taillights

The white wire has no function in a base harness (there is no voltage signal on the wire going to the turn switch)... The body harness in a TA connects the blue wire to the white one in the dash harness with a simple loop of wire between C208 B and A. There is no white wire in the body harness of a base model (nothing in terminal A of C208... IIRC, I had to add it when I swapped to the early tails).

IIRC, I think a 503 flasher was originally used on my car for the turn signals... I had to swap to a 552 (same flasher as the hazards) with the tails swap.
