Radio Only Works when yellow and orange wires are connected to eachother
Radio Only Works when yellow and orange wires are connected to eachother
ok so i installed a pioneer dh1300 radio today. the radio only powers on when the yellow( hot when ingnition is on) and orange(hot at all times) wires are connected to the red and yellow wires from the radio. this means the radio doesnt save my fm presets or the time. also my car has had a drain for a while now. dont know if this has anything to do with it.

Did you use the factory wiring & connect the HU with an adapter plug harness? If you did, what brand?
Color changes from HU to after market adapter harness to factory wires can be a bit confuising if you're like me & only done a radio or 2 in my lifetime!! Lol!!

i dont think it was an adapter plug harness. i might have been. the radio came with the car so i dont know exactly. the orange wire from the car wiring harness is hot all the time and the yellow wire is hot only when ignition is on. this was working perfectly i checked it with a test light. i connected the black ground from wiring harness(wh) to black from head unit(hu) then connected orange (wh) to yellow (hu) then the yellow(wh) to red(hu). this didnt work. i then kept the black to black connection but connected the other four wires all together and the radio worked. why did this happen, will this cause a drain, and why dont presets save even tho there shoud be a supply of electricty from the orange(wh) wire at all times? this is the manual i used for the wiring,

carralo1,
I had the exact same problem. I was able to solve it by ditching the thick yellow wire all together. I ran a new wire from the fuse panel to the radio and hooked it up to the hot in run wire form the radio. Then I just connected the hot in all times power from the radio to the smaller orange wire. It works fine now.
I am not sure if the original power wire was bad but I got tired of messing with it and decided to eliminate it.
Hope this helps.
