Gauges acting up in 88 Camaro 2.8 v6
We just purchased a 88 camaro for my daughter and the tachometer/oil pressure gauge is flipping out also temp gauge stayes pegged out on the hot side never moves. We need help. Dad won't let her drive it if he can't get the gauges to work right. Please help us! This is her first car and she is chomping at the bit to drive it. Also will gauge cluster from 1990 camaro rs fit in an 1988?

Just because the tach is broken, thats no reason to ground the car. I went though 4 tachs trying trying to find one that worked. you could have a bad guage or a bad sensor for the oil

You could always go to a parts store and get aftermarket oil press, temp, volt meter. The tach in my opinion, is not as important. Just look same cars dont come stock with them.

Gage Rage
Make sure the 2 connectors in back of the dash are seated.
OIL GAGE:
Disconnect the wire from the sensor oil pressure sender on the engine and connect a 47Ω resistor to the wire.
The oil sensor sender is located in the lower left side of the engine.
Connect the other end of the resistor to ground.
Don’t start the engine, but with the key in the RUN position if the gage reads about half way the gage is good.
That would mean the problem is the sensor.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
TEMPERATURE GAGE:
With engine OFF, key OFF, disconnect the dark green wire at the temperature sender.
The temperature sender is located in the top left front of the engine.
Connect an ohmmeter between the sender wire and ground.
If you see less than 2 Ω, the wire is shorted to ground.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Tach:
There is circuitry in the dash near the tach.
It’s contained on a small plug-in PCB or integrated in the main board.
On or near the PCB you’ll see a capacitor, replace it.
Also on the PCB you’ll see a resistor chip.
Desolder pins 4 & 10.
Use a 500K potentiometer.
Solder it across traces 4 & 10.
Move the potentiometer to half way.
Start the engine and compare the tach reading with a test equipment quality tach.
Dial it in, unsolder the potentiometer, measure it and install a matching resistor.
