no fire
no fire
hey guys, I just picked up a 1986 firebird with the 2.8 engine. the car was running and then just died according to the previous owner. I got the car home via towing it. the car has plenty of fuel and fuel pressure is good however I get no spark. replaced the pickup coil and the ignition coil but still no fire, no blown fuses and I am at a loss. any thoughts? will eventually drop a 400 in it out of a 72 Grand Prix xj but need to get it running for now. thanks

Re: no fire
welcome to the board!
first things first, have you scanned for any codes? if the check engine bulb's burnt out or covered (like my last one), the computer may be trying to tell you something's up without being able to let you know.
any connectors disconnected or look broken/burnt/etc?

Re: no fire
I replaced the small device that the pickup coil plugs into and she fired right up!! now my question is how do I adjust the idle ? It is a bit high and I dont know if you can adjust it or is there something that controls it that may be malfunctioning . the check engine light is on but I have no diagnostic device to retrieve the codes and cannot drive it to a shop, is there a way to retrieve them without a computer ? the engine is the 2.8 fuel injected V6 , not a throttle body if that helps, also no vacuum leaks or rotten hoses that I can find,it runs well good and strong but the idle is to high. any ideas? thanks
