wiring harness questions
so in the process of converting my car to a carbed set up i removed the harness from the engine bay. the onlything i havemt removed was head light harness so everything else is out. my question is what wires will i need? what color wire is the ignition. i will be running all aftermarket gauges except speedometer and fuel. are any of the gauges wired through that bulk head. im also keeping such accessories as the radio wipers door locks trunk latch and window motors are any of those things wired into the bulk head aswell? i pretty much have what i need set aside everything else looks like it goes to the ecm

Re: wiring harness questions
If you car was previously TBI, then yes the speedometer sending unit wires go through the c100 bulkhead connector, early cars had the wiper wiring as part of the engine harness, later cars it became part of the headlight harness, you should easily be able to look at your wiring to tell which part its connected to.
In the stock engine harness the main ones you're going to need will be the two large red wires, they go to fusible links connected to the battery, purple wire for start, and there should be a pink for your ignition 12V feed.

Re: wiring harness questions
Why does everyone insist on yanking all the wiring out of the car, and then asking what needs to be there? Doesn't simple logic dictate to ask BEFORE yanking all the wires out? Hell, pure laziness ought to make folks ask what to remove first, so that they don't have to work so hard at removing everything and then putting 1/2 of it back in!
There's a gazillion threads on this, 2 minutes of searching would have saved you alot of headache.
ALL driver side wiring harness wires stay! Pass side harness wiring can go. There's a few wires that run from pass side harness to driver side of car, for fuel pump relay, fan relay, etc. Those 3-4 wires can be fished out of the wiring loom that runs over the transmission. IF it's done correctly, all your gauges and everything will still function normally.
In the end, you should have left ALL the wires in place, swapped the motor, got everything connected that was needed for a carbed motor, and THEN taken out what you didn't need. It's been 4+ years since I swapped mine, and I STILL have all the wiring in the car, just tucked away. I use them all the time for things like torque converter lockup, underhood lighting, exterior lighting, foglights, etc. It's really nice to have a handful of wires already running through the firewall neatly, waterproofed & bug-proofed - ready for my needs at any time.

Re: wiring harness questions
its pretty hard to just remove the passenger side harness when it all runs through the driver side!! with that in mind.. taking the wires out is alot easier then sitting bent under the hood pulling wires then it does to just unbolt a few things. in my opinion LEAVING the wires IN is laziness...
