Using stock firebird headlight/dimmer switch on painless chassis harness

Hey guys. I am currently installing a universal GM keyed 18 circuit chassis harness from painless (PN 10201). I would like to use my stock headlight/dimmer switch set up (86 trans am) but need to know what the wires on each do and how to go about wiring them into a non-factory harness. I know a lot of you have gone to 4th gen dash swaps so I am curious what each wire goes to and does on the headlight switch and dimmer. All I have been able to find are camaro wiring diagrams which do not have a seperate dimmer and headlight switch. The wires I have on the stock switches are as follows....

Headlight switch

Orange (fuse panel?)
Red (thick wire..guessing main constant power)
2 Yellow wires in same terminal (assuming front/rear light power wires)
Brown (gauge lights?)
White

Dimmer switch
Brown (gauge lights?)
White (dimmer power feed wire?)
Black (ground?)
Green w/ white stripe

Now the wires the painless harness gives you for the headlight/dimmer section are as follows...

Red/Black- Fuse panel wire (constant hot?)
Blue/Yellow- Dimmer switch
Brown- Tail lights
Brown- Parking lights
Brown- Gauge lights
Orange- Fuse panel

Any input would be greatly appreciated. If I have to add wiring I can no problem. I know I will have to run wiring to control the flip up lights but I'd like an idea so I at least have a starting point. Anyone have any firebird switch wiring diagrams?? I have a service manual for a 91 firebird but they changed a lot in the headlight circuit after 86 so I'm not sure if it's very accurate for my car.

I have not been able to find a yellow wire for headlights in my EZ harness at all (or any color). Am I suppose to run a relay from the battery to the headlight switch and just use a yellow wire?

Look at the instructions for the EZ harness and post up what wire colors you have for the headlight section and what they are labeled as doing. I'll tell you what each should connect to on the headlight plug.

Re: Using stock firebird headlight/dimmer switch on painless chassis harness

this thread is old but did you ever figure it out? Im currently switching out my 91 camaro dash to an 83 trans am dash. in the process I had to switch my rear defrost switch, install the cigarette lighter and the light/dimmer switch. As of right now I got the headlight wires all set, but I can't seem to get the dimmrr switch wire colors right. I don't know what wires are what. Any help would be awesome.

I did end up wiring mine all correctly so it works, but I don't remember exactly what went where. I do remember the dimmer setup having a separate heat sink looking piece that the green wire with the white stripe went to, and that was needed to make the dimmer work. It was mounted up under the dash by the steering wheel if I remember right. Try searching on here for headlight wiring diagrams. That may help ya out.
