Window Motor Or Wiring?
Not sure Why my passenger side window stoped working. When I bought the car I tried to roll down the window and it would stop about halfway down then would not go back up. So I replaced the window motor thinking that it was just getting old and a new one would fix the problem, it did fix the problem for about 2 months then the same thing started happening again but only during hot days. The window works only on cold days and not the warm days when it is needed. Now that a month has gone by the window only rolls down an inch and stops, but will only roll up if you give it a five minute break after rolling it down.

Re: Window Motor Or Wiring?
What causes the window to stop working until after a cool down period is one of the overload protectors opening. There are two overload protectors in the window circuit. One is the circuit breaker in the fuse panel, the other is a thermal overload switch in the motor itself. Generally the circuit breaker won't open unless there is a serious overload but I have seen them get weaqk after years of use. When the motor's thermal starts to open under load, it usually means new motor time.
Check power on both sides of the circuit breaker using a test light, when the problem occurs. Also, check power accross the motor wires. If you are getting power to one side of the breaker and not the other, then the breaker is going open. Use an ammeter to measure amperage on the circuit, it should be 10 amps max with the window motor running. If amperage is normal, replace the breaker, if amperage is high, look for shorts or hot spots in the circuit. If the motor is getting power and not running, replace the motor.
Be sure to clean and lube the window regulator mechanism and tracks when replacing the motor. These tracks get dry and the regulator sticks. This is the leading cause of motor failure.

The factory recommendation is lithium chassis lube. I use Sta-Lube moly.

Re: Window Motor Or Wiring?
I just replaced the window motor a few months ago so hopefully it didnt go out again. When I put in the the new motor I lubed the window regulator mechanism and tracks so i dont think that would be the problem. Would a Bad fuse cause the problem? There is currently a 30A fuse in the WDO spot on the panel.

Re: Window Motor Or Wiring?
Really? A fuse? I am used to seeing circuit breakers on power window circuits. Look for an accessory power circuit breaker. It powers the power seat, where equipped and I think it also may provide power to the windows. A fuse will not provide power until hot then stop working til it cools down. Only a curcuit breaker or thermal switch will do that. Low power supply will strain a motor and cause it to overheat easily. Use a DVOM to verify 12v at the motor when running. Check all wiring in the window circuit for hot spots. Especially check connectors.
