1987 TA digital dash fuel levels...wierd problem??

1987 TA digital dash fuel levels...wierd problem??
My digital dash fuel guage shows 3/4 tank when i just start the car and let it idle( which is correct) however when I take the car out, it shows full. Whats with that?? Now thats what I call getting great fuel mileage, it goes up not down. lol What could be causing this? Thanks
