Wig Wags
I have my eye on a system for wig-wag police style headlights for my 82. However, it says that it is not compatible on ground side switched headlights. Does an 82 have positive or ground side switched headlights, and if so, what can i do to retro fit, or where can i get a system that will work?

Re: Wig Wags
Ground side switched means that the actual headlight switch turns on/off the ground to the lights - they have 12v+ to them always, and the switch switches the ground on/off. As far as I know, 3rd gens are positive switched - meaning they always have a ground and the switch turns on/off the 12v+ to them. Pull a headlight plug off a headlight, and test it for voltage to verify - if it has 12v+ on it when lights are off, then it's a negative switched system and thus a no-go. But I'm pretty sure 3rd gens are pos switched, and it'll be just fine.
But I'm curious - won't that be illegal? (Unless maybe you are a volunteer fire/rescue person or something).

Camaronewbie is correct. Our cars have a 12 volt positive activated headlight system so they will work fine. But........wig wags?

Re: Wig Wags
I've got a set on my truck. I needed them because my last job had me parking out in busy streets alot, but the novelty wore off pretty quick and they are kind of expensive. I got a 6 light set from oviedo safety lights online, they carry wheelen brand which supplies most emergency vehicles and pace cars. They are not illegal as long as your vehicle isn't in motion and your not sitting somewhere pretending to be a cop. Thats kansas law could be diffrent elsewhere. I just installed clear lights, didn't even want to tempt myself with the red and blue ones haha.

Re: Wig Wags
Gotta be careful with that kind of stuff. Freind of mine had red and blue "strobe" lights in his jeep and turned them on a few times. Well someone called him in and 3 cops showed up at his house and arrested him. He was on the news, had to go through a huge court ordeal, the whole 9 yards. flashing lights aren't worth it IMO on a sports car, or anything but an emergency vehicle. Thats why cars come with flashers from the factory. To each thier own though.

Re: Wig Wags
For Wig Wags & nothing else, it is just a double flasher unit. I still have mine from my Volunteer Fire Fighter days. I hooked it up to the front ambers on my 'bird, just because I got tired of seeing it sit around doing nothing.
For a Camaro, which I had at the time, it can be wired so that both Hi & Low will flash together, left & right. I hooked it up per instructions & got only 1 light per side (don't recall which, but i think the Lows) but when the His were on & I hit the Wig Wags, it caused the Lows to go dim really oddly. A friend of mine rewired the whole thing & got it to do His & Lows, both sides, no dimming. Was really fun to pull up behind the local cops & have THEM move out of YOUR way, when responding to a call!
Really small town, so that was easy & you wouldn't get that kind of thing in a bigger city, but you also wouldn't have Volunteer responders in a city either.

Re: Wig Wags
@camaronewbie- I asked my dad if it was illegal, and he would know because he is a police officer. He said it wouldn't be illegal unless I used them in any sort of non-car show setting. plus, where I'm at, there're TONS of ThirdGen Camaros, so I wanna set it apart from the rest. When it's done, it'll be pretty damn close to being blacked out and it'll have wig wag halos. It's strictly a show-off thing.
@vjgillespie- I was able to find a kit off of a police supply site for $20... But idk we'll see, right?
@BlackenedBird- thanks! I was thinking of just setting it up so that only the Hi's would do it.
