Wig-Wags & Wiring

Anyone install Wig-Wags in their TA? I tried, but they're not working properly. I know that the positive side switching is used for the head lights...i'm using the Whelen UHFPOSEC Flasher setup, but it doesn't appear to be working properly...does anyone of the wiring diagram of the headlights for an 89 TA? Maybe that would help...even though I think it's all wired in correctly.

its the lighting setup that is on a police car, how it alternates the high-low beams, for that pulsating effect

I was gonna put 'em in my car, but I use my truck more while on duty. I've never seen 'em done on a firebird, but it should be trivial.

Curiously, why are you installing them? are you a LEO?

so i kno the green wire that goes to the headlights in the car is for highbeams, cuz tested it with a multimeter and had power going to it only when the hi-beam lights were on, however, i'm confused with the yellow wire on the flasher unit....is that yellow wire connected directly to the green wire going to the right headlight, or is it still attached to the high beam switch? or is the highbeam switch wire only going to the driver headlight, and is connected together to the blue wire and the green wire going to the driver, while the passenger is only a direct connection with the yellow wire going to the green wire that leads to the passenger headlight. i have a feeling that i might have crimped the third wire leading from the highbeam switch together with the yellow and green...could that be the problem?

brown= +12 volt that is on when u turn on ur parking lamps(not headlights)
orange= +12 control, my best guess would be that this is would be a switched 12 volt wire, that enables/disables the wigwag unit
black= any constant ground source
red= constant +12 from battery
blue= wire coming from highbeam switch the side of the cut wire that leads BACK to the highbeam sw
yellow= This wire leads TO the highbeam lights from the wire u cut

i hope this helps, the schematic isnt to informative as i see

EDIT: i found a site which i beleive has the same colors as the unit u have http://www.specializedguard.com/Wig-Wag.htm

around here in illinois, that blinking/wavering effect, i beleive, is used to trigger sensors up on top the traffic light posts, (usually going in 2 directions per 4 way intersection) the blinking causes red lights to turn green i THINK its legal

i had a flasher unit on my 82 camaro... like a wig wag, but more options avail... for example i could flash the left 3 times, right 3 times, then both, or whatever, there were about 12 patterns it could do..

heres your first problem i see.... you have fold down headlights..... i dont know how that will effect things.

you'll need a multimeter for this... ask if you have a queston:

edit.. looking at that diagram, its only going to flash one headlight... WTF? the drivers side will have power all the time, and the pass side will flash...

that cant be correct.

the way that works is when the the highbeam switch is activated, by pushing on a floor switch pulling foward on the turn signal lever,whatever, the wire that is hooked into the highbeam switch that goes to the wigwag unit senses that the one highbeam light is getting power, so it applies power to the other highbeam, and when it is doing its wigwag thing, sends power back thru that wire to power the first light, dont know if u understood this

lol, gotcha.

that works just fine then.....

ok, on one of the headlight plugs, theres 2 wires on the higbeam connector.... one is +power and the other goes to the other light.

find what one goes to the other light and cut that one... be sure to give enough slack where you cut.... add a extention wire if neeed to get both wires to the box...

then the one that comes from the car and goes to the the light also goes too the blue on the box

the other light goes to the yellow.

does that help?

hey everyone thanks for your help but i found the careless problem that i did. i noticed that in the diagram that i scanned in from the instructions, the highbeam switch wire only goes to the driver side headlight, but i crimped it together with the yellow wire going to the passenger side, so i just cut it and tested it out and it worked! thanx again for help everyone.
